Canton, TX, United States, 03/16/2008 - Yttrium 90 Microspheres Education and Support (YES) announces a new webinar, "Clinical Updates on Radioembolization." This program is presented in an effort to increase the awareness of Yttrium 90 Radioembolization (SIR-Spheres or Therasphere).
Dr. Andrew Kennedy, the keynote speaker for this webinar, is co-medical director for Wake Radiology Oncology Services in Cary, North Carolina, where he has been since 2002.
His primary activity is providing patients with treatments for cancer, specializing in gastrointestinal cancers, as well as cancers of the breast, lung and cervix. From 1997 until 2002, he was an associate professor in the Radiation Oncology and head of GI radiation oncology at The University of Maryland School of Medicine, and Residency program director. He is an internationally known radiation oncologist.
He has given numerous presentations on radiation therapy for the treatment of colorectal and liver cancer, and was instrumental in reintroducing the infusion of microspheres, which offers hope to patients who have not had success with chemotherapy. He developed the most commonly used protocol in the US for infusion of microspheres and he has written many peer-reviewed scientific papers, articles, book chapters and abstracts on radiation oncology. He possesses a strong and passionate commitment to Y90 research and treatment, with a very active clinical research program for all cancer types in the liver. His current research includes the development of a computer software treatment planning system that will allow users to aid in determining the right dose of radiation prior to treatment day.
In addition to his many other accomplishments, he has been invited to give presentations on radiation therapy for GI cancers and infusion of microspheres both nationally and internationally.
