CARY (February 26, 2007) – Wake Radiology Oncology Services announced today that it will partner again this year with the American Cancer Society for the 2007 Wake County Relay For Life events. As the Wake County Health Care sponsor, the practice will support the seven 2007 Relay For Life events, held at locations throughout the county. This marks the fourth year that Wake Radiology has sponsored the annual program.
Relay For Life is an overnight event to celebrate cancer survivorship, pay tribute to the lives lost to the disease and raise money locally for American Cancer Society programs. At each venue, team members gather at schools, fairgrounds or parks and take turns walking or running laps. Each team tries to keep at least one team member on the track at all times.
"Cancer impacts nearly every person in our community, and that’s why it’s important that we gather to honor survivors and remember those who have lost their battle," said Scott Sailer, MD, co-director, Wake Radiology Oncology Services. "Relay For Life is such a celebration of triumph over cancer. As one of the leading cancer treatment centers in the Triangle, we care for patients every day who beat this disease. Their resolve and courage keeps us in the medical community focused on finding new ways to treat and beat cancer. By teaming with the American Cancer Society, cancer survivors, friends and families, we can multiply our efforts in making a difference in the lives of cancer patients and in fighting this disease."
Relay For Life events will be held in the following Wake County locations:
"It is through partnerships with incredible sponsors like Wake Radiology Oncology Services that we are making a difference in the fight against cancer," said American Cancer Society Regional Development Director Liz Davey. "We applaud their leadership role and support of all seven of our events in Wake County."
Last year, more than 273 teams participated in Wake County Relay For Life events, raising more than $822,374 for the American Cancer Society.
