Tips on Taking Care of Yourself During Radiation Therapy
  • Inform your doctor about all of your medications and allergies.
  • Don't take herbal medicines or vitamin supplements without checking with your doctor.
  • Stay well-rested. Radiation often causes fatigue.
  • Eat a healthy, balanced diet.
  • Wear loose-fitting, non-starched clothes over treatment areas.
  • Take extra good care of your skin, and ask before using soaps, lotions, deodorants, sun blocks, medicines, perfumes, cosmetics, talcum powder, or other substances in the treated area.
  • Protect skin from sun. Cover with light clothing or ask your doctor about sun screen.
  • Use only paper tape if bandaging the treated area is necessary.
  • Use lukewarm water for bathing treated area. Avoid heat or cold.
